Network Video Recorders work with IP or Network cameras
As long as the camera to NVR connection has sufficient bandwidth, the NVR can record the video that the camera is streaming. The IP or network cameras themselves perform the video compression and therefore the NVR is not required to perform the function of compressing the video. Similar to the DVR, the video can be reviewed on most of NVRs directly or alternatively on a network attached client review station. In the case of IP based systems a PC with a sufficiently powerful machine and graphics card is required. This is because the demand on the work station is resource intensive when it has to de-compress the data for viewing especially with high resolution and/or high frame rate recorded footage.
